MINNEAPOLIS -- Patriots No. 1 wide receiver Brandin Cooks was ruled out for the rest of Super Bowl LII with a head injury after taking a big hit from Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins in the second quarter of New England's 41-33 Super Bowl loss.

Cooks caught a 23-yard pass over the middle and circled in an attempt to gain extra yardage when he turned to the outside and ran into by a thunderous hit by Jenkins.

Cooks, who played 92.7 percent of the offensive snaps during the regular season, remained on the ground before walking to the locker room with members of the medical staff. He was ruled out shortly thereafter.

In his absence, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola and Phillip Dorsett all move up one spot on the Patriots' depth chart.

Cooks, who was acquired in an offseason trade from the New Orleans Saints for a first-round draft pick, totaled 65 receptions for 1,082 yards and seven touchdowns in the regular season. He had nine catches for 132 yards over two playoff games entering the Super Bowl. He also drew 244 yards in penalties this season.
