Pat Shurmur gave an obligatory "we'll see" when asked about playing Odell Beckham Jr. in the third preseason game. The star WR didn't play in the first two exhibition contests and hasn't played in a game since breaking his ankle in October.

The Giants plane last night didn't arrive in Detroit until after 2 am. They got back around 5 am. "Sleep is overrated" according to coach Pat Shurmur. Only injured players needed to come in Saturday for treatment.

It was an evening of redemption for Davis Webb. After a shaky outing last week, he bounced back in a big way against the Detroit Lions. Webb went 14-of-20 passing for 140 yards with a touchdown while playing the entire first half. He showed a strong command to the offense and an ability to fit throws into tight windows. He had a QB rating of 106.3 after a 49.4 last week. This was much needed. Webb didn't play last year and likely won't play much next week in preseason game No. 3. That will be Eli Manning's opportunity to get ready for the season. Manning didn't play vs. the Lions. But Webb at least gave the Giants hope they have a trustworthy backup this year and potential for more in the future.

Tonight is going to be the Davis Webb show with Eli Manning unlikely to play. Pretty big opportunity for the young QB. Needs to bounce back strong. No Odell Beckham or Saquon Barkley either but should get to play behind starting OL + with weapons like Evan Engram/Sterling Shepard.

Odell Beckham Jr. making quite the entrance. Always having fun. Not expecting him to play tonight vs. Lions though.

Odell Beckham Jr. feels "he just needs it" in regards to playing against outside competition, which he did in joint practices. "I can't shy away from it." He's coming back from a broken ankle and is looking for a new contract. He still believes the later will work itself out.

Saquon Barkley says as a competitor he thinks he'd find a way to play if there were a playoff game today. He has a hamstring "tweak" and did some light jogging on the side Thursday.

Giants having a light practicing in a drizzle here in Allen Park. Resembles a walk-through. Saquon Barkley again on the field but not participating. Preseason game No. 2 Friday night in Detroit.

Asked about Jalen Ramsey's comments, Eli Manning responded: "No comment. Who?" Manning says he didn't know about Ramsey's critical assessment.

Left hand, right hand, it doesn't matter. Odell Beckham Jr. is pretty good at this one-handed drill. Coach Pat Shurmur runs it because he believes it's useful in contested situations. He noted a specific play (when a Browns defender interfered on Amba Etta-Tawo) as part of the reason he runs the drill.

Saquon Barkley again in uniform. Not in pads. Doesn't appear to be practicing. He "tweaked" his hamstring Monday. Giants consider him day to day.

OBJ impresses in joint practice with Lions

Odell Beckham Jr. exploded out of his cuts, aggressively plucked the ball out of midair and made impressive one-handed grabs Tuesday in the Giants' joint practice with the Lions.

Busy practice for Odell Beckham Jr. He caught a handful of passes and was making plays all over the field against the Lions. He looks every bit as good as he did before the broken ankle.

Coach Pat Shurmur said Saquon Barkley is the same as yesterday. Labels him "day to day" with a tweaked hamstring. Barkley did not practice. He did some light work on the side with the trainer.

Saquon Barkley at practice in Detroit but not in pads. He's standing around watching as the Giants run some plays.

Matt Patricia said a family friend growing up was the widow of former New York Giants Hall of Famer Steve Owen and that she would show him some Giants stuff she would be sent when he was a kid. Wouldn't say whether or not he was a Giants or 49ers fan growing up. Just says he's a Detroit Lions fan now.
