Broncos rookie OT Garett Bolles suffers possible ankle fracture

DENVER -- Denver Broncos rookie left tackle Garett Bolles suffered a left foot injury in a 42-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys and was wearing a walking boot while using crutches as he exited Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday night that Bolles would be checked for a possible ankle fracture.

The team is calling it a "lower-leg injury," and Bolles is expected to undergo an MRI exam on Monday. It appears that the best-case scenario would be a high-ankle sprain, which would cause Bolles to miss several weeks at minimum. If the MRI shows a fracture, Bolles would miss even more time.

"He's being evaluated. ... I'll know more [Monday],'' Joseph said.

Running back Jamaal Charles landed on Bolles' left leg at the end of a 3-yard run with 8:40 remaining in the third quarter. The Broncos were on the 13th play of a 15-play scoring drive.

Bolles stayed on the ground as the Broncos' medical staff examined his left leg following the play. An emotional Bolles was taken to the locker room on a cart and raised his arms to acknowledge the crowd.

As Bolles slowly walked out of the stadium alongside several family members, including his wife and son, he said he hoped for the best with the MRI to come. Bolles was the Broncos' first-round pick this past April and has worked with the starters throughout training camp as well as the preseason and into the start of the regular season.

When Bolles left the game, the Broncos initially replaced him with Donald Stephenson, but Allen Barbre played much of the game in the left tackle spot after the injury.

The Broncos rushed for 178 yards in the 42-17 victory, including 118 yards rushing from C.J. Anderson.
