Raptors' Jared Sullinger set for foot surgery Monday

Raptors free-agent acquisition Jared Sullinger will have surgery Monday to have a screw inserted into the fifth metatarsal in his left foot, the team announced Sunday.

Sullinger signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Raptors during the offseason after spending his first four seasons with the Celtics. The forward injured his foot in the preseason opener against the Warriors on Oct. 1.

The Raptors did not announce a timetable for his return. One source close to Sullinger, however, said it's unlikely that the player will be back on the court in the next month.

The team said in a statement that the procedure is a preventative measure to alleviate symptomatic stress reactions.

Sullinger, who missed the second half of his rookie campaign due to back surgery, averaged 10.3 points and 8.3 rebounds last season for the Celtics.
