Storyline - Multi-zone tread tire combines heat resistance with grip: Kansas Speedway is one of six tracks on the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup schedule at which teams run one of Goodyear's multi-zone tread right-side tires. The multi-zone tire features a heat and wear resistant compound on the inboard two inches of the tread, while running a more tractive compound for grip on the outboard 10 inches. Grip is always at a premium at Kansas, so protecting the inboard portion of the tire that sees the most heat, allows Goodyear to give teams the grip that is needed across the majority of the tread.

"Kansas is really a perfect fit for our multi-zone tread tire," said Greg Stucker, Goodyear's director of racing. "Cup cars run at incredible speeds there, and with the settings in the front ends of these cars, that generates a lot of heat on the inboard of the right-front tire. Being able to protect the inboard of the right-front that takes the most abuse with a more heat and wear resistant tread compound frees us up to give teams more grip with the outboard compound. This current rules package gives these cars a limited amount of aerodynamic downforce, so giving mechanical grip through our outboard tread compound helps give the cars adequate grip."

Notes - Cup returns to Kansas on May tire set-up; new left-side tire for Xfinity cars: Teams in both the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series will run the same tire set-up at Kansas this weekend . . . for the Cup cars, this is the same combination of left- and right-side tires they ran at Kansas this spring . . . this right-side is one of Goodyear's multi-zone tread tires, with two tread compounds on the same tire - one on the inboard two inches for heat resistance (Endurance Zone) and one on the outboard 10 inches for grip (Traction Zone) . . . this right-side code is unique to Kansas . . . for the Xfinity cars, this is the first time they have run this left-side tire code . . . compared to what they ran at Kansas last season, it features a construction update to align it with what is run at other speedways . . . both Cup and Xfinity teams also ran this left-side code on the Charlotte oval in May . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at Kansas . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.

Upcoming tire test - Goodyear to hold confirmation test on Charlotte oval next week: Goodyear has a one-day tire test scheduled for the oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway next Tuesday (October 23) . . . drivers scheduled to participate are Aric Almirola, William Byron, Daniel Hemric and Erik Jones.
