BATON ROUGE, La. -- In one of the deepest years for receivers in Louisiana history, LSU got one of the three high-end receivers it was after on Saturday.
Trey Quinn (Lake Charles, La./Barbe), ranked No. 37 in the ESPN 300 and No. 3 among receivers nationally, committed to the Tigers on Saturday. Quinn's father confirmed that LSU coach Les Miles accepted the commitment.
"I just really took the time I needed to talk it over with my parents, to sleep it over," Quinn said. "I talked it over with DeSean Smith ( an LSU tight end and high school teammate) and I like the way the new offense is looking and I like the chance to play in-state where everybody can see me."
Quinn is the highest ranked of LSU's 14 commitments and the ninth commitment in the ESPN 300.
LSU is also after the nation's top receiver, Malachi Dupre (River Ridge, La./John Curtis) and the nation's top-rated athlete, Speedy Noil (New Orleans/Karr), who projects as a wide receiver.
"It's awesome to have an opportunity to be part of what could be a great class," Quinn said. "It's like the Miami Heat. When you build something special, everyone wants to be a part of it. It's really exciting to have so many of us from Louisiana."
One of the most productive receivers ever in the high school game, Quinn enters his senior season at Barbe with a chance to become the all-time leading receiver in high school football history. He picked the Tigers over Clemson, among others.
"People talked about LSU and Clemson, but there was also Ole Miss, Texas Tech and Auburn," Quinn said. "You grow some really good relationships talking to these coaches once or twice a week. It was hard telling them no."
