In The Trenches: 2014 predictions

Signing day for the Class of 2013 was almost two months ago, which in recruiting is an eternity, and attention is already squarely focused on the 2014 crop. Even though recruits can't sign letters of intents until Feb. 5, 2014, it's never too early to look ahead. Reading the minds of 17- and 18-year-old high school students is next to impossible, but here are 10 bold predictions for the Class of 2014.

The nation's No. 1 team will be from the SEC

I didn't want to break the crystal ball on the first prediction. SEC schools have finished with ESPN's No. 1 recruiting class five of the past eight years, so it might not be all that surprising to see them near the top again with 2014 prospects. Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas A&M have sprinted from the gates early with solid commitments, and the talent in the South again appears to be quite loaded.

The biggest question mark likely will be which SEC team will knock Alabama off its perch after recruiting the top classes in 2012 and 2013. The answer might be nobody, but keep an eye on Will Muschamp and the Gators. UF has seven early commitments, including six players on the ESPN Watch List.
