Hornets to interview James Borrego, Jay Larranaga for second time

The Charlotte Hornets will interview San Antonio Spurs assistant James Borrego and Boston Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga for a second time in the franchise's search to hire a new coach, league sources told ESPN.

Borrego and Larranaga will visit individually with Charlotte officials this weekend in meetings expected to include owner Michael Jordan, league sources said.

The Hornets have met with several other coaches, including new Knicks coach David Fizdale, San Antonio assistants Ettore Messina and Ime Udoka and Portland assistant David Vanterpool.

Borrego has been an NBA assistant with the Spurs, Pelicans and Magic since 2003.

Borrego was 10-20 as interim coach of the Orlando Magic to finish the 2014-15 season. He has interviewed for several head-coaching jobs this spring, including New York and Phoenix.

He is set to meet with the Milwaukee Bucks next week about their opening.

Larranaga has been a Celtics assistant since 2012 under Doc Rivers and Brad Stevens. He was a D-League coach for two seasons (2010-2012) with the Erie Bayhawks.

Larranaga also met with the Knicks and Atlanta Hawks for their head-coaching openings.
