Iman Shumpert undergoes surgery on knee, Cavaliers say

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Friday at the Cleveland Clinic Sports Health and is expected to return to the court in six to eight weeks.

The surgery, which was expected, was performed by team physicians Dr. Richard Parker and Dr. James Rosneck.

Shumpert, who has missed five of the Cavs' past six games because of his left knee effusion (commonly known as a fluid buildup), was re-evaluated Tuesday by Parker and Rosneck. It was determined at that time that surgery was necessary.

Cavs guard Dwyane Wade offered some words of encouragement to Shumpert after Thursday's game.

Shumpert is averaging 4.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 38.6 percent from the field in 20.8 minutes per game this season. He has started six games at point guard because of injuries to Derrick Rose and Isaiah Thomas.
