Benintendi climbs fantasy prospect rankings following trade deadline

Outfielder Andrew Benintendi should provide an impact in Boston later this season. Chris Williams/Icon Sportswire

You get a prospect! And you get a prospect! And even you over there get a prospect!

This describes the closing minutes of the 2016 trade deadline, in which more than a dozen young stars swapped threads with veterans of various degrees.

While fans of contenders celebrate the acquisitions needed to make a push for the postseason, supporters and followers of teams less fortunate get a reprieve from the disappointment of 2016 and gain hope from the newly infused talent. In some cases, including several below, the talent was already in the system, but recent moves have presented opportunity that previously was not there.

In the realm of fantasy, at least those on redraft leagues, it is the best of both worlds. Veterans on new clubs may be invigorated down the stretch, which could lead to a boost in production, and the influx in talent that should filter through the majors in the coming weeks provides a source of talent on the waiver wire that previously was not available. Championships are not won in August, but they certainly can be lost depending on what owners do and do not do.

Here are the top 10 names to keep an eye on for this week:

1. Andrew Benintendi, OF, Boston Red Sox
