Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane appears to have returned to Bolivia for his latest recruit with the acquisition of Venezuelan forward José Alí Meza, subject to a medical.

The 27-year-old was most recently with Bolivian side Oriente Petrolero, the same league from which Mosimane snatched Uruguayan Gaston Sirino in January.

Meza has been training with Sundowns this week as Mosimane seeks to bolster his striker options, with South African Footballer of the Season Khama Billiat almost certainly on his way out of the club following links with a move to Europe.

A fee and personal terms have been agreed, and if Ali Meza passes the medical then the deal will be completed.

The president of Oriente Petrolero, Ernesto Alvarez, admitted that the financial package offered by Sundowns was well above not just what his club could offer the player, but any team in Bolivia.

Meza started his career with Venezuelan side Mineros de Guayana and spent five seasons there before making the move to Deportivo Táchira in 2013.

He had a six-month loan spell at Portuguese second-tier side CD Feirense, who he helped to promotion in 2015/16, before joining Oriente Petrolero in August 2016. He was a major hit there, netting 24 goals in 46 league starts, and followed that up with nine goals in nine starts in 2018.

That included all four goals for his side in a 4-4 draw with Destroyers in March.

The Bolivian side have already turned down an offer from Brazilian side Vitoria Bahia for his services, saying the financial package did not meet their estimation of his value.

Alí Meza recently signed a new contract at Oriente Petrolero until 2020, which reportedly made him the highest paid player at the club.
