Hargreaves lands two big ones

BRADENTON, Fla. -- ESPNU Watch List defensive back Vernon Hargreaves III already has double-digits offers, but the cornerback from Tampa (Fla.) Wharton picked up two more that he had been waiting on.

"Alabama and LSU are the most recent offers," said Hargreaves, who is competing in the IMG Madden 7-on-7 Southeast Regional qualifying event. "I've been waiting for those offers for a long time. I mean why wouldn't you want an offer from those schools? I was excited. They win games. That's really what I'm looking for, just to win games and a good environment to be around."

Hargreaves claims no favorites, but he plans to visit several colleges over the spring and summer months.

"I'll start up north," he said. "Then make my way back down to places like Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Alabama, Georgia and Florida -- places like that."

Hargreaves said he's intrigued by the thought of playing in front of such a large crowd at Michigan.

"With Michigan, it's a good tradition," he said. "They are pretty much always good, too. Who wouldn't want to play in front of 114,000 people every Saturday?

And his visit tour will allow him to learn a little more about some programs.

"Georgia offered me a couple of weeks ago. I don't know much about them, but I definitely want to get to know more," he said. "I'll probably visit them sometime over the summer."

Hargreaves, who will play in the 2013 Under Armour All-America Game, said he does know of one school that is near the top of his list.

"Florida is close to the top I guess," Hargreaves said. "I like Florida. I like their coaching staff. I met some of their players and they said, 'We work hard on the field and off the field we joke around and we'll play XBox, but on the field it's all business and we want to win games.' "

The 5-foot-11, 181-pound athlete said there are a few key factors he will focus on when making his decision.

"I'm looking for a good environment and a good coaching staff," Hargreaves said. "Just somewhere where I know I can be happy for three or four years or however long I stay. I'm going to take my officials, and lets say Florida State is my third official visit and that's where I know I want to go, then that is when I'll make my decision."
