Three Texas Longhorns players will not participate in the Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl next week while serving suspensions, coach Tom Herman announced Friday.
Texas freshman running back Toneil Carter, junior tight end Garrett Gray and sophomore receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey have been suspended from the game for a violation of team rules, Herman said.
Humphrey is the team's second-leading receiver with 37 catches for 431 yards and a touchdown while appearing in all 12 games this season. Carter, who appeared in nine games, is the team's fourth-leading rusher with 263 yards and three touchdowns. Gray, who appeared in two games this season, caught four passes for 18 yards.
The Longhorns also will be without four other key players when they take on Missouri on Dec. 29 at NRG Stadium in Houston.
Junior defensive tackle Chris Nelson suffered an elbow injury during practice and will be unable to participate in the bowl game. He appeared in 11 games this season, starting seven, with 18 tackles, 3 tackles for loss and 1 sack.
Offensive tackle Connor Williams, safety DeShon Elliott and cornerback Holton Hill have declared for early entry into the 2018 NFL draft and will not participate in the bowl game.
