Dante Pettis exits Apple Cup with apparent leg injury

SEATTLE -- Washington star receiver and punt returner Dante Pettis was helped off the field with a left leg injury in the first quarter of the Huskies' 41-14 Apple Cup win against Washington State on Saturday night.

Running back Lavon Coleman also left the game with an apparent injury to his lower left leg.

"I think they [Dante Pettis and Lavon Coleman] are okay. It's always different in the morning, but the trainers feel okay," said coach Chris Petersen. "It's hard for me to answer injury questions. I hope they can play in the bowl game. It's always next man up, but in this case, it changes a little bit. It was a hard and wet night to throw a new punt returner up there with the rain, so that was a little bit different for us. Other than that, we have some good running backs."

Pettis was injured midway through the quarter on a punt return after Washington State went three-and-out on its first possession.

Pettis was initially tripped up by Kyle Celli and was hit by Dillon Sherman as he fell to the turf. Pettis immediately grabbed at his left ankle area and was helped off the field without putting weight on the leg. He later walked slowly and with a limp to the Washington locker room.

Pettis had one catch for 10 yards on Washington's opening drive. Pettis is Washington's leading receiver this season with 60 receptions and is the NCAA's career leader in punt return touchdowns with nine.
