Rutgers wide receiver Leonte Carroo has been indefinitely suspended, coach Kyle Flood said Sunday.

Flood said Carroo was involved in an incident outside High Points Solution Stadium following Saturday's game against Washington State. Flood declined to provide more specifics; however, police said Monday that Carroo was charged with simple assault under a domestic violence-related issue.

Flood said on a conference call with reporters that it's "an investigation that the program takes very seriously, and when it concludes, I'll have further comment."

Rutgers athletic director Julie Hermann met with the team on Monday after practice, according to NJ.com, and expressed her total support for Rutgers football.

"As the leader of the athletic department, I felt it was important to meet with the players to express my profound disappointment over recent issues involving the program, but at the same time make the team fully aware that they have my unwavering support," Hermann said in a statement issued by her spokesman.

Carroo was suspended for the first half of Rutgers' season opener Sept. 5 against Norfolk State for a team curfew violation. He returned to catch three touchdown passes.

Carroo ranked second in the Big Ten in receiving yards last season (1,086) and started all 13 games.

Rutgers recently dismissed five players from the program after four were arrested on assault charges and another on robbery charges.
