Deontay Wilder's promoter Lou DiBella has slammed Dillian Whyte and insists he's "puzzled" as to why there is so much hype surrounding the heavyweight contender.

Wilder (40-0, 39 KOs) defeated Luis Ortiz by knockout on March 3 to retain his WBC heavyweight belt, a strap Whyte is the No.1 challenger for due to his reign as the current WBC Silver champion.

Despite speculation that Whyte could be next in line to face the American -- potentially ahead of Anthony Joshua -- DiBella doesn't believe he's deserving of a shot at his world title.

"There is no situation," DiBella told ESPN regarding a potential fight with Wilder. "Who is Dillian Whyte? What has he done? This is another creation of Eddie [Hearn].

"To be honest with you, it's not like Dillian Whyte has looked like a world beater recently. Dillian Whyte is similar to half a dozen of guys fighting in the United States.

"I don't disrespect Dillian Whyte. I just don't think he has a greater claim at a shot at a title than a whole bunch of other people.

"I don't understand other than the fact he's British, associated with Sky Sports and Eddie Hearn why people keep talking about Dillian Whyte -- it puzzles me."

Along with questioning Whyte's claim for a world title shot, DiBella also believes he should fight Joshua again.

"If he [Hearn] rates him so highly, he should put him back in with Joshua," he added. "He rocked him the first time they fought.

"He hasn't looked so great lately and Eddie is so desperate to get Dillian an opportunity, do it with your champion."

Whyte's next fight is against Australian boxer Lucas Browne on March 24 at London's O2 Arena where he defends his WBC Silver belt.
