Amir Khan: I questioned my boxing future during time in the jungle

Amir Khan has admitted that he questioned his boxing future during his time on reality TV show "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here."

The former light-welterweight world champion has not fought since May 2016 -- when he was knocked-out by Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez -- but is now preparing to return to the ring when he meets Phil Lo Greco in Liverpool on April 21.

Khan, 31, confirmed his comeback in January by signing a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing, but noted that a return was far from guaranteed during his spell in the Australian jungle last year.

"There were times in the jungle when I thought about where I want to be in boxing," Khan told Sky Sports. "Do I still want to fight? Do I still want to box?

"I could retire tomorrow and say I have had a great career, won world titles, and have had a great time. But there was still a little bit more left I wanted to achieve from boxing."

Although the former Olympian recognises he has entered the closing stages of his career, he is determined to regain his status as a world champion and leave the sport on a high.

"While I was in that jungle I thought, look, I have just turned 31, I am at the peak of my career now, and this next year or two is going to be the final chapter.

"So, I want to make sure that I grab it with both hands and win another world title, win more fights, and call it a day on top -- I can't just retire after the Canelo loss."

Despite his confidence that his return to the ring will lead to great things -- with murmurings of a possible showdown with domestic rival Kell Brook -- Khan is reluctant to start looking too far past his next opponent.

He added: "I need to come back, there are some big fights out there for me. Let's get past the Lo Greco fight.

"Having had that defeat, I want to see how I am as a fighter. Coming back into boxing -- let's see how this fight goes and take it from there."

Interactions between the two fighters have already become heated after Khan threw water over the Canadian at their first press conference following comments about the Brit's personal life.
