Floyd Mayweather Sr. pleads not guilty to assault charges

Floyd Mayweather Sr., father and trainer of retired boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., has pleaded not guilty to charges that he assaulted a woman in September, according to court records obtained by USA Today.

Mayweather Sr., 65, was charged Jan. 16 with misdemeanor assault and battery for allegedly punching a woman during an altercation after the Gennady Golovkin-Canelo Alvarez bout in Las Vegas on Sept. 16. He turned himself in Tuesday and entered his plea Thursday.

Mayweather Sr. is due back in a Clark County (Nevada) court March 27 for a bench trial.

Mayweather Jr. has twice pleaded guilty to domestic assault against women, and was convicted in another such case before the verdict was later vacated and charges dismissed.
