ESPN's Mark Dominik believes that Adrian Peterson is the guy that Seattle is looking for and explains why AP has at least one or two more years in him before retirement. (1:16)

Running back Adrian Peterson left Seattle without signing a contract with the Seahawks, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson.

Peterson was the second free-agent back to meet with the Seahawks. Eddie Lacy was in town over the weekend.

That Peterson left without a deal is not a surprise. The sense here is that the Seahawks are in the information-gathering process with free-agent running backs. They are expected to host Latavius Murray on Tuesday and Jamaal Charles on Wednesday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Pete Carroll made it clear after last season that getting the run game back on track was an offseason priority. Thomas Rawls was hampered by injuries last season, playing in nine games and averaging 3.2 yards per carry. Rookie C.J. Prosise looked like he could be a difference-maker as both a ball carrier and a receiver, but he missed 10 games because of injuries, and Carroll said after the season that Prosise has to prove he can be durable.

Overall, 18 players notched a carry for the Seahawks last season.

Peterson turns 32 later this month and played in only three games last season after tearing his meniscus. The Seahawks will want to see where he and the other backs they're meeting with are physically.

Peterson has not had any other reported free-agent visits.
