The Seahawks used Bradley McDougald as a third safety quite a bit yesterday, often matched up with Giants TE Evan Engram. His 17 (of 59) defensive snaps were more than his totals from the first five games combined.

Here are the Seahawks' offensive snap counts from yesterday: Thomas Rawls started at RB and got 30 snaps to Eddie Lacy's 21. Mark Glowinski (48 snaps) started at LG and played more than Ethan Pocic (34 snaps) as the two rotated there.

Seattle's Baldwin apologizes for pushing Cable

Seattle receiver Doug Baldwin took full responsibility and apologized to Tom Cable after he shoved the offensive line coach during a second-quarter player huddle on the sideline during Sunday's 24-7 win over the Giants.

Referee Tony Corrente's explanation of how officials awarded Paul Richardson a touchdown on a simultaneous catch with Giants safety Landon Collins: "The receiver went into the air, had control of the ball, lost control, re-grasped the ball and at the same time he did, the defender grabbed the ball, also. They went to the ground simultaneously with the football. Then they started a little wrestling match. It's over now. That catch is established because if the defender was to pull the ball out of his hands now, it's still a catch because the defender has a second action. So at that point when they were on the ground together, and they're tussling to begin with, the catch is over, that's the touchdown. Now, after that is when he rolled over and we don't have any clear view of, quote unquote, anything happening after that. So that's where it stands."

Doug Baldwin took full responsibility for shoving Tom Cable during a sideline exchange, saying, "I lost my cool. It's 100 percent my fault." Baldwin said he wasn't upset with Cable but with his offensive teammates. He and Cable made amends right away.

The Seahawks have to feel excellent about the way their defense is playing. That group has rebounded from a rough performance in Week 3 and has only allowed 33 points over the last three games. They're also starting to take the ball away with more frequency and they're getting contributions from young players like Frank Clark, Jarran Reed and Shaquill Griffin. It's been enough to carry Seattle through its slow starts on offense.

The Seahawks' offense made a bunch of mistakes early — dropped passes, penalties, poor execution in the red zone — but found its groove in the second half while their defense stood tall the whole time. That's been a winning formula for the Seahawks this season and it was again in their win over the Giants.

Paul Richardson's long-awaited emergence as a play-maker in the Seahawks' offense continues. He hauled in a 38-yard touchdown on a trick play. Richardson and Giants safety Landon Collins both appeared to have possession of the ball when they hit the ground in the end zone, but officials awarded Richardson a touchdown, and the ruling stood after a review. Richardson, a fourth-year receiver who has battled injuries, now has three touchdowns on the season.

Russell Wilson entered the game with the NFL's second-best passer rating against the blitz this season, at 123.9. He beat the Giants' blitz for a 22-yard touchdown to Doug Baldwin, floating a pass up the seam and allowing Baldwin to run underneath it. That's a play that Wilson and Baldwin have connected on several times, including last season vs. New England.

Great ball from Russell Wilson on the TD pass to Doug Baldwin. But don't forget about Baldwin's ability to win at the line of scrimmage. He can shake press-coverage all day.

The Seahawks have used Bradley McDougald as a third safety on a handful of plays today, including in a dime package on the Giants' last third-down play. He's been matched up with tight end Evan Engram, a rookie first-round pick who has wide receiver speed.

LB D.J. Alexander has had a quiet start to his Seahawks career since he was acquired from Kansas City in a trade over the summer, but he made a big play to block a Giants' punt. That gives the Seahawks possession at midfield. Alexander made the Pro Bowl as a special teams player last season.

The Seahawks have an overwhelming advantage in total yards, 222 to 42, but they trail the Giants. How's that possible? Inefficiency in the red zone and dropped passes are two reasons. Those have hurt the Seahawks' offense at times this season, and they've been problematic again today. Penalties have also held Seattle's offense back, but one was a questionable pass-interference against Tyler Lockett that negated a touchdown.
