The 49ers signed WR Max McCaffrey from the Green Bay Packers practice squad to their active roster. To make room for McCaffrey on the roster, the Niners put WR Victor Bolden Jr. on injured reserve. McCaffrey, of course, is the son of former NFL wideout Ed McCaffrey and the brother of Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said the MRI on CB Ahkello Witherspoon's injured knee showed no significant damage. Shanahan said it's a sprained knee and Witherspoon will be day-to-day this week. Good news for the Niners' secondary this week.

49ers LT Joe Staley is one of eight finalists for the 2017 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, which "recognizes those who best demonstrate the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition." This is Staley's third nomination and time as a finalist since the award was born in 2014. Winner announced the night before the Super Bowl.

Asked 49ers FB Kyle Juszczyk if he believes QB Jimmy Garoppolo is elevating the play of those around him. Here's what he said: "I think there's no question," Juszczyk said. "Jimmy is already a leader of this offense. I think he's definitely elevated people's play. He's given people chances to make plays. You see Marquise went over 100 today, you see Celek's had some big games, that helps our running game and Carlos and Breida get to eat. Adding Jimmy to this offense is a difference maker, for sure."

Here's how the race for the No. 1 overall pick shifted over the course of the 1 p.m. games today. Browns have it all but locked up now.

With Jimmy Garoppolo as the starting quarterback, the 49ers have something they've been missing for a long time: hope. With Garoppolo leading the way -- he threw for a career-high 334 yards -- the Niners won their second game in as many weeks with him under center. It's the first two-game win streak the Niners have had under first-year coach Kyle Shanahan. Those wins might have come against lesser opponents but Garoppolo is still working with a rudimentary understanding of Shanahan's offense. With an offseason to learn it and for the Niners to build around him, there's no doubt that the 49ers feel much better about the future than they did earlier this season.

The 49ers get a timely takeaway and yet another Robbie Gould field goal to make it 26-16 with 3:50 to go. They're inching closer to the first two-game winning streak of the Kyle Shanahan era.

49ers looking to hang on for their first winning "streak" under coach Kyle Shanahan. They have the ball at their 20 with 11:20 to go. A long drive ending in a score would help put this one away.

The Niners answered Houston's touchdown drive with a field goal to tie it at 16 with 8:12 left in the third quarter. Had first-and-goal at Houston's 7 but couldn't cash it in. They're now 1-of-7 on trips to the red zone the past two weeks in terms of touchdowns.

Deep corner route on the DeAndre Hopkins TD. That's his second score of the day. And Hopkins has now caught 10-of-12 targets for 144 yards.
