Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander is reportedly drawing interest from some postseason contenders.

Rumor Central

According to MLB.com's Jon Morosi, the Houston Astros are interested in trading for Verlander and closer Justin Wilson, in whom they've shown a continuing interest. Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press tweets that he's been told the Astros' involvement in talks regarding Verlander "has been minimal."

Per Fenech, the Milwaukee Brewers are also interested in Verlander, while the Chicago Cubs are said to be monitoring the six-time All-Star. Citing sources, Morosi reported earlier this month that the Cubs have interest in Verlander and catcher Alex Avila. USA Today's Bob Nightengale predicts Avila will be the next Tiger to be traded, noting that "no team has expressed stronger interest" than Chicago.

The longest-tenured Tiger, the 34-year-old Verlander has spent the entirety of his 13-year career in Detroit and has 10-and-5 rights, which means he can veto any potential trade.

Verlander has two years and $56 million remaining on his current contract with the Tigers, which includes a $22 million option for 2020 that vests automatically if he finishes in the top five of the 2019 Cy Young vote. The Tigers are reportedly willing to include cash in a deal for last season's AL Cy Young runner-up and would likely have to do so in a trade to the Astros, Morosi notes.

In 20 starts this season, Verlander is 5-7 with 4.54 ERA and is tied for the American League lead in walks with 55. Statistically, it's the worst season of his career since 2007, when he went 11-17 with a 4.84 ERA.

The 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young award winner, Verlander is 7-5 with a 3.39 ERA in 16 career postseason starts. He's played in two World Series (2006, 2012), but has yet to win a ring.
