Josh Rosen brings excitement but Cardinals face learning curve

The Arizona Cardinals ended their offseason program on June 14. Here's a look at how they fared:

Offseason goals: Arizona rebuilt its quarterback room this offseason, so the goal was for the new signal callers -- especially rookie Josh Rosen -- to get up to speed on the playbook as quickly as possible. The Cardinals' offense is complex, one player said. Another said the playbook is already as big as it was last year under former coach Bruce Arians with the expectation of it growing. But with Sam Bradford's health still a question mark, getting Rosen as many reps as possible, will continue to be a priority.

How they fared: Too soon to tell

Move I liked: Signing fullback Derrick Coleman might have been the smartest move the Cardinals made all offseason. Coleman will not only add a different dynamic to Arizona's run game -- one that hasn't been around the previous five seasons -- but he'll also provide protection for tailback David Johnson, who'll once again be the centerpiece of Arizona's offense.

Move I didn't like: Releasing safety Tyrann Mathieu, who signed for less money in Houston than he reportedly would've received in Arizona. Mathieu wasn't just a fan favorite throughout Arizona but, when healthy, was one of the most dynamic defensive players in the league. Although injuries hampered him throughout his career, a change of coaching staff could've led to a resurgence. And the defense with Mathieu, was always better than without him.

Biggest question still to be answered in training camp: How many reps will quarterback Bradford get? He was limited in OTAs but his workload increased daily during minicamp. Arizona is still implementing a plan to bring Bradford along slowly, so how much action he gets in training camp could dictate how ready he is for the regular season. As of now, he'll be the starter in Week 1. But if he's unable to practice, Rosen is the likely recipient of Bradford's reps, which was one of the reasons the Cardinals aimed to get Rosen as many reps as possible during OTAs and minicamp.
