Brittan Golden believes he's a WR but just hopes 'somebody calls'

TEMPE, Ariz. – Brittan Golden approach to free agency is simple: He just wants a job next season.

“Hope somebody calls,” he told ESPN. “That’s really it. Wherever it is, it is what it is.”

The 29-year-old receiver and special teamer has spent the early part of his career bouncing between the Arizona Cardinals' active roster and the practice squad. He found consistency over the last two seasons but was used primarily as a special teamer, averaging 242 special teams snaps over the last three seasons.

Golden feels he has established his special-teams skills over the last few years, but he also believes he can be an everyday wide receiver. He had 18 catches for 293 yards and a touchdown in five seasons. Last season, he had five catches for 70 yards before fracturing his arm in Washington in Week 15. He had eight catches for 82 yards and a touchdown in 2016.

The prognosis on Golden’s recovery was that he’ll be ready to play by March.

When Golden looks at teams in free agency, how their receiver depth chart stacks up will play into his decision “probably a lot.”

“Probably be most of it,” he said. “Every guy wants to play.

“I know I can play receiver. I have no doubt in my mind there. It’s just getting an opportunity to play, which was kind of tough here with the lot that we have. Wherever it is, hopefully I’ll get a little receiving time, as well.”

It doesn’t matter to Golden where he ends up.

“I’ll go anywhere,” he said. “It doesn’t bother me.”

He just knows it’s out of his control.

“It’s a little nerve-racking wondering where that job is going to come from – if it comes,” he said. “I feel like at the end of the day, there’s not really much you can do about it. Just prepare and make sure you’re ready to go.”
