SAN DIEGO -- For the first time since 2013, the San Diego Chargers will not have a player in the Pro Bowl.

It's hard to make a Pro Bowl when you're team is 4-10, but quarterback Philip Rivers certainly has the numbers to be involved in the conversation. Rivers has thrown for more than 300 yards eight times this season, and needs one more 300-yard performance to set a franchise record. Rivers is first in the NFL in completions (385) and attempts (577) and second in passing yards (4,287).

However, Rivers is No. 11 in touchdown passes (26) and No. 21 in passer rating (95.0).

Although Rivers carried the Chargers in perhaps the team's final season in San Diego, other quarterbacks were more deserving.

A second-year pro out of TCU, cornerback Jason Verrett emerged as San Diego's No. 1 corner and one of the better cover guys in the league. Verrett leads the team with three interceptions, including two weeks ago against Kansas City Chiefs signal-caller Alex Smith -- his first interception thrown in 313 pass attempts, which had been the second-longest streak in NFL history.

Verrett is someone opposing offenses are game-planning against, but he has to put together a larger body of work to make the Pro Bowl.

Others who deserved consideration include Keenan Allen, who was second in NFL with 67 receptions before his 2015 season was ended with a lacerated kidney suffered in a Week 8.

And running back Danny Woodhead leads the Chargers with 921 yards from scrimmage and has a career-high nine touchdowns.

Verrett was selected as a first alternate, while Rivers and special teams captain Darrell Stuckey were named fourth alternates.
