Jeff Chan gears up for semis clash vs. 'dangerous' Rain or Shine

Jeff Chan admitted he is taking a "business-like approach" when Barangay Ginebra clashes with his former team Rain or Shine in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup semifinals starting Sunday.

Chan won two PBA titles during his seven seasons at Rain or Shine, before being traded to Phoenix last year. He played briefly for the Fuel Masters, before he was dealt to Ginebra last month for a future first-round pick.

The 6-2 veteran gunner expects the Kings' best-of-five semifinal series against the Elasto Painters to be physical.

"I've moved on already since I got traded (by Rain or Shine) and now, I'm happy and I'm focused at trying to win three games in the semifinals," Chan told ESPN5 on Friday.

Although Ginebra is currently the hottest team this conference after winning its last seven games, including its two-game sweep of Meralco in the quarterfinals, the 35-year-old Chan knows their playoff showdown with ROS won't be a walk in the park.

"The reason why they are no. 1 (ranked team) is because they have a system in place. They know each other very well and a lot of them have championship experience," noted Chan, the 17th overall pick in the 2008 PBA Rookie Draft.

And even if Rain or Shine got pushed to its limit during its knockout quarterfinal win over no. 8 seed GlobalPort, Chan stressed that it takes a strong mental focus and preparation to beat his former team.

"Everyone can contribute at Rain or Shine. And they all have great confidence in the playoffs. They are a dangerous team so we really have to prepare well and hard against them," he added.

Asked if he'll play a bigger role in the semis, here's what Chan said: "Whatever coach needs me to do, I'll do that even if that means sacrificing my offense just to be able to make defensive stops. Al I want is to help my team get the win."
