British & Irish Lions player ratings vs. All Blacks

The British & Irish Lions fell to a first Test 30-15 defeat against New Zealand, despite scoring a memorable first-half try. Here is how the players rated against the All Blacks.

Liam Williams: 7/10

Amazing No.7-esque turnover when ABs looking dangerous. Provided moment of the match with scintillating break on counter for Lions' first try. Not without his trouble under the high ball, though, which resulted in Rieko Ioane's second try.

Anthony Watson: 6

Great take to defuse Barrett cross-kick early in first half, but best moment came after half time with a wonderful run off an inside pass. Otherwise quiet.

Jonathan Davies: 8

Outstanding in what little opportunities that came his way. Great break early on that almost led to game's opening try; then showed poise to keep play moving for Lions' first five-pointer just before half time.

Ben Te'o: 7

Had a ding-dong battle with Sonny Bill Williams throughout. Huge tackle on Anton Lienert-Brown just before halftime, then nailed Williams straight after it.

Elliot Daly: 6

Chased hard all night and then played vital part in Lions' first five-pointer.

Owen Farrell: 6

Never really controlled the game with any authority. Threw a couple of loose passes, too, while a couple of aimless kicks opened up the opportunity for counter. Sexton may get a crack in Wellington.

Conor Murray: 6

His trademark box kicking put the Lions on the front foot but there were a few less glorious kicks. Could have had a try in the first-half, with a bit more pace.

Mako Vunipola: 6.5

Got through a mountain of work early on. Solid shift from the front-rower

Jamie George: 6

Like Faletau, put in a huge game defensively. But missed a key lineout midway through second half.

Tadhg Furlong: 5

Almost created a chance with charge-down in first half, but other than a couple of good breaks made little impact.

Alun Wyn Jones: 5.5

Had a torrid time of it early as he found himself on end of a few big hits. Replaced by Maro Itoje early in second half.

George Kruis: 6

Ran into a black brick wall early, but started to poke his head through by half time. 16 tackles showed he stuck at it.

Peter O'Mahony: 6

Lost the head-to-head with Kaino but put in a solid shift on defence to finish with 13 tackles. Replaced by Sam Warburton on 53 minutes.

Sean O'Brien: 6

Was outplayed by Cane at the breakdown. Did provide finish for Lions' try, though, and was always in support when tourists found open space.

Taulupe Faletau: 6.5

Huge first-half effort on defence with 13 tackles before the break, and another seven after it. Mixed that with some nice carries in a big No. 8 battle with Read. Topped Lions' ball carries with nine.

Replacements: 6

Bar Itoje and Kyle Sinckler, offered little impact. Rhys Webb may well feel he should have been introduced earlier.
