When it all went West: The try that tamed the British & Irish Lions

Tour games don't often live in the memory when one reflects on previous British & Irish Lions campaigns, but Ihaia West's try that saw Tana Umaga's side record a famous victory might well be an exception to the rule.

It came in the 74th minute, after the Lions had just gone in front from a Leigh Halfpenny penalty -- their first lead of the second half.

Sam Nock -- who replaced standout Blues scrum-half Augustine Pulu moments earlier -- finds Steven Luatua on the Blues' 10 metre line.

In his last game for the Blues at Eden Park, Luatua takes to the line forcing the tackle of Courtney Lawes.

Maro Itoje -- to Lawes' left -- sees Sonny Bill Williams coming in support, but it's too late as Luatua delivers a perfect offload out the back of the hand to his Blues and All Blacks teammate.

Williams scoots past Rory Best before he's confronted by several Lions players.

Rhys Webb comes across from the previous ruck in cover defence while Liam Williams moves in from the left-hand wing to force the tackle.

It matters little. SBW sees Ihaia West in support and finds him with another delightful one-handed offload.

West -- who comes from a Sevens background -- has speed to burn. There's still plenty to do despite the brilliance of Luatua and Williams.

West takes the ball on 40 metres from the try-line and goes between Peter O'Mahony and CJ Stander, while Best does his best to stay with the play.

The Blues replacement then weaves past Johnny Sexton before sidestepping a hapless Leigh Halfpenny to score under the posts.

It was a moment of Blues' brilliance that will go down in their history.
