Maybe we thought Tony Hawk had turned a corner. Maybe the skateboarding legend himself thought his problem of being told he just looks like Tony Hawk was in the past.
It was happening so often that it became a running theme of his Twitter feed.
Then, in late May, there was a breakthrough. At a neurologist's office with his wife, Cathy, Hawk was recognized as himself and not just a doppelganger of a famous person.
Now, however, it's sad to report that the days of people wondering if a Tony Hawk lookalike has visited them have returned. At least, that was the case Friday, when Hawk visited a coffee shop in Lincolnton, North Carolina.
At coffee shop this morning:

Girl behind counter: (not joking) "has anyone told you that you look like Tony Hawk?"
Me: yes, so much that I sometimes write about it.
Her: haha, here's your coffee
Other girl by exit: (leans toward me as I walk out): "you really do look like him"
And then it happened again on the same day, this time in Boone, North Carolina.
Different coffee shop (same day) but it happened there too. I didn't share that encounter because it would have been too excessive for one day.

Perhaps, in the future, if you think someone is Tony Hawk, just go with it.
