Ex-Bucks interim coach Joe Prunty to become Suns' lead assistant

Joe Prunty has agreed to a deal to become the lead assistant for Phoenix Suns coach Igor Kokoskov, league sources told ESPN.

Prunty had been Milwaukee Bucks' interim head coach in the wake of Jason Kidd's firing this season. Prunty was at the helm for the Bucks' seven-game series loss to the second-seeded Boston Celtics in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Prunty won 21 of 37 games to finish out the Bucks' regular season, and he interviewed for the Milwaukee head-coaching job that ultimately went to former NBA coach of the year Mike Budenholzer.

Prunty had been Kidd's top assistant coach with the Bucks, overseeing an offense that was rated among the top 10 in the league.

Kokoskov, an 18-year NBA assistant, was hired in May from the Utah Jazz as the Suns' head coach.

The Suns were an NBA-worst 21-61 last season and own the No. 1 overall pick in the June 21 NBA draft.
