Ragin surprises at Portland combine

The 2012 Nike Football SPARQ Combine schedule concluded on Saturday at Tigard High School in Oregon, and nearly 600 athletes turned out for the event.

RB/LB Johnny Ragin of Wilsonville (Ore.) racked up the event's highest SPARQ rating with a 111.48. Ragin showed great upper-body strength with his 42-foot power ball toss, while his 4.28 shuttle time and 33.8-inch vertical displayed his lateral speed and explosiveness.

Jeffrey Williams from Tualatin (Ore.) finished with the day's second best mark of 104.49. The hard-hitting linebacker measured in at 6-1.5 and 213 pounds while jumping 34.4 inches in the vertical. Williams was able to increase his SPARQ rating 17 points from a year ago.

Foothill (Pleasanton, Calif.) TE/LB Raymond Hudson is a combine vet and his experienced paid off as he recorded a 101.43. Hudson is a productive two-way star who accounted for more than 600 receiving yards to go with six scores in 2011. On defense, he tallied 75 tackles and grabbed five interceptions.

Top Class of 2013 Performer

Scott Quessenberry, OL, La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad, Calif.)
Quessenberry posted a 93.69 SPARQ Rating. The athletic lineman spent time at tackle and played defense during his junior year. He holds double-digit offers and should see his stock continue to rise this summer.

Class of 2013 Honorable Mention Performers

Johnny Ragin, RB/LB, Wilsonville (Ore.)
Breakout performance included the day's top SPARQ rating and the No. 2 power ball toss.

Tanner Shipley, Wilsonville (Ore.)
Big-play back registered a 93.30 SPARQ rating. Shipley ran for 1,287 yards and 16 touchdowns last season. Oregon State and Wyoming have offered to date.

Zach Floyd, RB, Tigard (Ore.)
Notched a 100.47 with a 4.10 shuttle and 4.76 40 time. Shifty, scat back is a weapon in the return game and at Wildcat for the Tigers. He was an all-league selection last year.

Xavier Lewis, DB, Eaglecrest (Centennial, Colo.)
Physical safety who likes contact. Clocked a 4.22 shuttle to go with a 4.76 40. Lewis is looking for his first offer.

Nathan Ahlers, LB, Sutter Union (Sutter, Calif.)
Collected more than 80 tackles and 5.5 sacks during junior campaign. Ahlers scored a respectable 94.65 rating in Oregon on Saturday.

David Ajamu, DE/TE, Shelton (Wash.)
Jumbo pass catcher at 6-foot-4.5, 231 pounds. Projects as a reliable, possession tight end who can excel as a blocker with added size.

Top Underclass Performer

Addison Johnson ('14), WR, Coeur D'Alene (Idaho)
Ideal slot receiver with top-end speed. Johnson blazed a 4.57 40 and leaped 39.4 inches on the vert test. He is an elusive wideout who emerged on the combine scene after securing a 105.99 rating at the Long Beach Nike Combine in March.
