Conor McGregor would stop Max Holloway if the pair were to face each other in the octagon for a second time, according to the Irishman's striking coach Owen Roddy.

McGregor's first meeting with the American came back in 2013 and ended with the Irishman, who injured his knee during the fight, claiming victory by unanimous decision after going the full three rounds.

Since then, both fighters have risen to great heights, and an ongoing social media feud has only fuelled calls for a second bout. McGregor, 29, currently holds the UFC lightweight title after his emphatic knockout win over Eddie Alvarez in November 2016, while Holloway, 26, is the undisputed champion in the featherweight division. He was due to defend his title against Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 before being forced to withdraw from the event with injury.

Although McGregor has not appeared in the octagon since defeating Alvarez, Roddy is confident that his fighter would be the comfortable winner if a rematch were to take place.

"It would be a great fight but I think Conor would probably put Max away," Roddy told Submission Radio. "I think Max would probably be way more confident in his ability, and if you go in there a little bit overconfident with Conor you're gonna go to sleep.

"He [Holloway] stood back in the first fight -- and obviously Conor injured himself and couldn't put him away -- but yeah, I think it would be a great fight."

Although Roddy was keen to credit Holloway for how far he has come since that first meeting five years ago, he still believes that defeating McGregor would be a step too far.

"Max has done so well since the Conor fight -- he's been on a tear. Even John Kavanagh said it back in the day -- he called that Max would have been the next champion after that fight with Conor.

"You could see it in Max, and I think everyone sees it. He's a great fighter, but I think Conor's on another level compared to him as well."
