Salah enjoys Klopp reconciliation but regrets still linger

Mohamed Salah banished ongoing talk of a rift with Jurgen Klopp -- for now at least -- with a rousing two-goal display as Liverpool put Tottenham Hotspur to the sword in the Premier League, while Nicolas Jackson also enjoyed a weekend to remember as Chelsea end their season in style.

Leicester City's African contingent rounded off a fantastic second-tier campaign as they returned to the top fight as champions, while Brahim Diaz became Africa's latest LaLiga winner as Real Madrid got over the line. The final weeks of the storied collaboration between Klopp and Salah surely haven't been what either man had envisaged.

Amidst the Egyptian's struggles to rediscover top form, the Reds were dumped out of the Europa League by Atalanta, before their hopes of another Premier League title were all but extinguished amidst dropped points against Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham United.

As if that wasn't enough, the relationship between player and coach had appeared to sour, with Salah dropped, and then appearing to clash with his manager after being introduced as a 79th-minute substitute against the Hammers.

Before Sunday's visit of Tottenham, both player and coach had insisted that there was no issue between the pair, with Klopp dismissing the allegations of a rift as a "non-story".

Certainly, they appeared firmly on the same page as Spurs were trounced, with the Reds taking a 4-0 lead inside the hour, and Salah delivering arguably his best performance in the Premier League since New Year's Day.

Recalled to the starting XI, the forward was as motivated as he was sharp, and made light work of the sub-standard Emerson Royal, a feeble facsimile of a leftback. Enjoying space, he hit the woodwork with a lofted effort early on, having got the better of Guglielmo Vicario, and later forced a fine block from the Italian stopper after being picked out by Harvey Elliott.

Spurs were up against it from the early stages, unable to cope with the Reds' expansive and adventurous attacking play. Salah opened the scoring with a rare header, again exploiting the space left by the lackadaisical Royal to meet a Cody Gakpo header.

Demonstrating some of the profligacy that has characterised his recent displays, Salah missed another decent opportunity, but was responsible for Andy Robertson adding Liverpool's second when Vicario could only save the Egyptian's effort into the Scot's path.

Late on, Salah missed yet another decent opportunity -- the kind he would have buried in years gone by -- as Spurs mounted a late comeback, but ultimately, even his complacency couldn't dampen the Anfield mood.

"Mo was outstanding," Klopp told Sky Sports after the match. "He played a really good game.

"His [right] side with Harvey was good, and I was pleased for him.

"None of the boys want to play not great, why would they? Mo showed what he is capable of."

While Klopp and Salah may be back on good terms as their collaboration ends, there's still the lingering sense that their campaign would be concluding with more silverware still 'in play' had it not been for the 31-year-old's Africa Cup of Nations injury setback.

The attacker only played one league game for the Reds between New Year's Day and March 10, and has scored only four Prem goals in 10 appearances since the AFCON.

Also in the England, Jackson scored a Premier League brace for the first time since early November when he bagged twice in Chelsea's 5-0 plundering of West Ham United on Sunday.

Following on from his goal against Tottenham in midweek, this is the first time the Senegal international has scored in consecutive matches in two months, and represents a significant upturn in fortunes after underwhelming displays against Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Dovetailing superbly with Noni Madueke, Jackson finally married his immense physical attributes and smart off-the-ball movement with sharp finishing, tapping home the Blues' fourth soon after the break before a fine finish to complete the rout ten mins from time.

The 22-year-old has 13 league goals to his name, with three Premier League matches to play, having already surpassed the legendary Didier Drogba's goal return in each of his first two Chelsea seasons.

Leicester City may have lost their final Championship game at home against Blackburn Rovers this weekend, but it was nonetheless a weekend of celebration for the Foxes' African contingent as they were crowned winners of the second tier.

Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho have both been rewarded for remaining loyal to the East Midlanders following their relegation from the top flight, while Abdul Fatawu Issahaku may well feel vindicated for having rejected the opportunity to represent Ghana at the Nations Cup in order to focus on Leicester's promotion push.

Patson Daka will also get another shot at the Premier League, having scored four goals during his maiden top flight season as Leicester were relegated. Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are looking well placed to end the season unbeaten, with only two league games to go as they look to add the 'invincible' tag to their unprecedented campaign.

This weekend, Eintracht Frankfurt proved a meagre barrier, with Nathan Tella starting for Xabi Alonso's side as they ran out 5-1 winners.

While Tella earned a penalty for the visitors during the first half, it was his compatriot, Victor Boniface, who got on the scoresheet himself. The Super Eagle came off the bench just after the hour mark -- with Leverkusen 3-1 up -- before rounding off the rout with an 89th-minute penalty.

"Abeg. He scores goals," read a pidgin-influenced social post from Bayer's Twitter handle - aiming to appeal to the club's increasing Nigerian fanbase.

Boniface's goal was his 12th of the season, and he's now had a hand in 20 goals in the German top flight during Bayer's inexorable march towards the title.

Their latest victory extends their unbeaten streak in all competitions to 48 matches -- equalling a European record set by Benfica in the early 1960s -- and Der Werkself can still conclude the campaign with the Europa League and the German Cup.

Democratic Republic of Congo forward Silas Katompa Mvumpa heaped further woe on troubled Bayern Munich with a late intervention as the fallen heavyweights endured yet another outing to forget.

Introduced in the 79th minute, Silas required just four minutes to set up Jeong Woo-Yeong to give the hosts the lead, and then killed off any Bayern hopes of a comeback with a 92nd-minute winner.

It hasn't been a stellar campaign for the attacker -- this was only his fourth Bundesliga goal -- but displays like this will surely alert suitors, with Villarreal one club linked to the 25-year-old earlier this year.

In Spain, Diaz added his name to the illustrious list of African La Liga champions as Real Madrid secured their record-extending 36th title.

The attacker opened the scoring as Los Blancos dispatched Cadiz 3-0 on Saturday, swirling in a fine individual goal from the edge of the area. The win ultimately moved them out of reach of Barcelona, whose own title challenge ended as they fell to Girona later in the day.

It has been a season to remember for the 24-year-old, who has equalled his career-best six goals in a league campaign (registered with AC Milan last term) and became a Morocco international after making his debut in March.

The ex-Spain international becomes the first Atlas Lion since Achraf Hakimi -- also a winner with Real -- to clinch the Spanish title, and follows in the footsteps of the likes of continental greats Samuel Eto'o, Yaya Toure and Geremi.

Also in Spain, Inaki Williams struck twice -- including a fine effort from range -- as Athletic Bilbao saw off Getafe 2-0.

It was a family affair at the Estadio Coliseum, with the Getafe players accompanied to the pitch by their mothers to celebrate Mother's Day -- but it was the Williams brothers who were left celebrating, with Nico assisting both of his sibling's goals.

"My mother will be happy today," Williams said after the match, as per Citi Sports. "Today [Nico and I] won't be fighting in the locker room, [we're] super happy in the end."
