Reports that Springbok flank Jaco Kriel has signed a deal with English side Gloucester is 'simply media speculation'.

That is the word from the Lions star's management team In Touch Sports after speculation in the English media that a three-year deal had been penned.

Kriel signed a two-year deal with Japanese side Kubota Spears in June, and is still under contract to play for the Lions in Super Rugby.

Should a move to Gloucester materialise, Kriel will link up with his former coach in Johannesburg, Johan Ackermann, but his management team insists this will not happen - for now.

"Simply media speculation - Jaco Kriel has not signed for Gloucester Rugby. He is signed & committed to the Lions for Super Rugby. Will only make a decision on his future in March after consulting with Lions," a statement on their Facebook page read.
