Bidvest Wits have confirmed that winger Phakamani Mahlambi has completed a move to Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Whilst the Egyptian transfer window only closes on September 14, their deadline for foreign signings is on midnight on September 7.

As such, the 19-year-old travelled to Egyptian capital Cairo late on Wednesday to complete his medical after Wits accepted a bid believed to be in the region of R17million for the player.

"Bidvest Wits confirms the permanent transfer of P. Mahlambi to CAF African Club of the Century, Al Ahly SC. Good luck and do us proud," Wits tweeted on Thursday evening.

Mahlambi had a break-out season in South Africa in 2016/17 and was named Young Player of the Season as Wits claimed the Absa Premiership title.

Mahlambi joins the Egyptian Premier League champions on a four-year deal, becoming the first player from South Africa to play in the North African country.

Mahlambi's transfer isn't the first bid of business Wits and Al Ahly have done this season, after striker Amr Gamal was loaned to the PSL champions last month.

Al Ahly start their domestic campaign against El Geish at the Cairo Military Academy Stadium on Sunday evening.
