Table-topping Rivers Hoopers further strengthened their grip on top spot in the Atlantic Conference with a 96-91 win away against Nigeria Customs in Lagos on Thursday.

The Port Harcourt-based team completed a truly stunning comeback in the last quarter, equalling the scores at 86-86 with 1:20 on the clock in the 4th quarter before eventually blowing their hosts apart.

Solomon Ajegbeyi was the star man on the day, as he netted six vital points in the last 50 seconds to secure a big win for Hoopers.

Nigeria Customs remain fourth in the table with the defeat, and will rue their fortune after winning the 1st quarter: 19-8, the 2nd quarter: 41-37 and the 3rd quarter 68-67.

The game was theirs to lose before the unexpected meltdown in the last three minutes of the game, where high number of turnovers and dropped energy levels worked against the Border Boys.

Seyi Ayodele of Nigeria Customs and Hoopers' Ajegbeyi were the game's joint highest scorers, both netting 20 points.

It was another inconsistent performance from Nigeria Customs, but they can take consolation in the performance of guard Austin Andrew, who was perhaps the most influential player for his team, orchestrating play impressively.

The win silences Rivers Hoopers' critics, with some pundits having accused Ogoh Dauda's side of depending exclusively on home wins for their impressive league position, while simultaneously struggling to impose themselves away at their fellow title challengers.

In other results, second-place Kwara Falcons kept the pressure on the leaders, winning 76-66 against Hoops and Reads who remain in third, while Oluyole Warriors, in fifth, earned a routine 83-52 home win against bottom-placed NAF Rockets in Ibadan.
