PITTSBURGH -- Have a week, David DeCastro.

The former All-Pro is rated as Pro Football Focus' best offensive guard through seven weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers just won back-to-back games by running the ball 80 times, and DeCastro just missed Wednesday's practice for the best reason:

The birth of his daughter, Brooke, on Wednesday night.

"Baby is healthy, mama is healthy," said DeCastro, 27. "Definitely changes your perspective."

DeCastro FaceTimed with left tackle Alejandro Villanueva from the hospital Wednesday afternoon. Several teammates jumped in for congratulations and friendly razzing about why they didn't get a personal FaceTime call.

DeCastro missed one practice as an effort to maintain routine, and he's relieved the birth didn't overlap with Sunday's game at Detroit.

DeCastro, who signed a $58-million extension in September 2016, is savoring the moments of this week.

"As you get older and play enough games in this league, with experience and life experience, when this happens it cements what's important -- good things," DeCastro said. "Nothing but positives."

DeCastro will play up the birth but downplays his own performance, even though his downfield pull-blocking has been a catalyst for Le'Veon Bell's 134 yards or more in three of the last four games.

Everyone looks better with more successful rushing attempts, he said.

"Playing pretty well, but any time you're winning, the offensive line is going to play better because you're not sitting back passing all the time," DeCastro said.
