UA jersey tour: Patrick Hudson

Baylor commitment Patrick Hudson was presented with an Under Armour All America jersey on Wednesday, in a ceremony presented by American Family Insurance and attended by friends, teammates, family and members of the Silsbee High faculty.

For the ESPN 300 linebacker, playing in the Under Armour All-America Game is not only a dream come true, but a chance to carry on the tradition of top high school players from the state of Texas playing in the presitgious game.

“It’s an honor to be in the game,” said Hudson. “The opportunity to represent my family, school and community means a lot to me.”

Not only is Hudson the first player from Silsbee High to be selected for the Under Armour All-America Game, but is just the fourth to be selected from the Beaumont area dubbed the "Golden Triangle." For the 6-foot-5, 330-pound Hudson, the chance to join fellow 2016 selection Devwah Whaley and follow in the footsteps of Deionte Thompson and Tony Brown is something he is proud of.

“To be the first from Silsbee is great. It means a lot to me that our community supports me. Our community supports all of us here. To be in the game that others have played in from the area is great for the entire area.”

Some players are heavily recruited as freshmen and already have a sense that they could be selected for the prestigious All-America Game. The No. 36-ranked player overall wasn’t in that boat, coming from a small town.

“To be honest, I don’t think I realized until I was 16 during my sophomore year that I could have these opportunities. All of these colleges were coming out for me, and wanted me to play for them. That’s when I knew.”

The No. 1-ranked guard prospect in the country will not head to Orlando unfamiliar with the Under Armour All-America Game experience. He was part of last year's inaugural Under Armour Future 50 -- a showcase for 50 of the top underclassmen in the country, centered around the Under Armour game.

“I was excited and nervous at the same time last year. I think that it got me ready for practices, game day, the week and everything that comes with the Under Armour Game.”

Hudson will take the field for the Under Armour All-America Game Jan. 2 at the Citrus Bowl. Practices are televised on ESPNU during the week.
