UA jersey tour: Ricky Aguayo

WATCH: Ricky Aguayo UA jersey presentation

Florida State fans will get a glimpse of the Seminoles’ future special teams stars at the Under Armour All-America game as both of the school’s kicking commitments are playing in the prestigious all-star football game. Earlier this month, FSU punter commit Logan Tyler was officially honored as an All-American and Thursday was Ricky Aguayo’s turn to be recognized, as the American Family Insurance jersey tour stopped at Bradenton (Florida) IMG Academy.

For Aguayo, the nation’s No. 5 kicking prospect and the younger brother of FSU junior kicker Robert Aguayo, there was never any doubt he would be playing in the Under Armour Game. Aguayo remembers watching the game and the practices each January on ESPN and has long viewed the event as something he had to play in before moving on to college.

“It's a big deal for me because my brother was one kick away from making the game,” Aguayo said. “I instilled in my mind in eighth grade that I was going to make it to the game for him.”

And he did. There was also never any doubt he would be playing at Florida State. While Aguayo could have played out the recruiting process and looked at other schools, when the Seminoles offered him a scholarship in early June at its camp, he accepted right on the spot.

“When Jimbo Fisher tells you he wants you to be his kicker, it really means something,” Aguayo said. “That’s all I needed to hear. After talking it over with my family, I felt it was the best for me to commit to Florida State. It’s a decision I’m still excited about months later.”

Aguayo is 4 of 6 on field goal attempts this season, missing only a 52-yarder and a 32-yard try that went right over the upright. He said he can’t wait to get to Orlando and compete with the other specialists in the game and it’s an honor he’ll never forget.

Five questions with Ricky Aguayo

Who is the best player to have played in the Under Armour All-America Game?

“Jameis Winston, of course. He was one of the best quarterbacks to ever play in the game, and he did great things at Florida State.”

What players are you looking forward to competing with or against at the UA All America Game?

“I’m really looking forward to playing with my IMG teammates (Shea Patterson, Saivion Smith, Shavar Manuel, Rahshun Smith and Tyler Gerald) and the other specialists, like Logan Tyler, who will be my teammate at Florida State.”

What was your earliest football memory?

“My earliest memory is hitting a game-winning field goal in a Pop Warner game. I can still describe it with every detail to this day. It’s something I’ll never forget.”

Which football player did you watch as a kid?

“Sebastian Janikowski. He is one of the greatest kickers of all time.”

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

“I'm aiming to break all my brother’s records at FSU. That’s something that I think about all the time and will be working hard to do when I arrive in Tallahassee.”
