UPDATE: Fletcher tweets that the price is high on Hernandez, and it won't be the Angels that get him if a deal happens.

With Howie Kendrick now in tow, the Philadelphia Phillies have themselves a trade chip in the form of second baseman Cesar Hernandez.

Rumor Central

The 26-year-old was a hot name at this week's GM meetings, Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com writes, citing sources.

Hernandez broke out at the plate this year, slashing .294/.371/.393 and tying for the MLB lead with 11 triples. One team that would love to add him is the Los Angeles Angels, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.

Earlier this week, Fletcher reported that the Halos turned down a trade for a second baseman that was more bat than glove, citing that defense at the position is a high priority for the team. Hernandez ranked second in the NL with four defensive runs saved at second base this year, one more than Gold Glove winner Joe Panik.

Kendrick played left field for the Los Angeles Dodgers this year, but his natural position is second base. Still, Phillies GM Matt Klentak told ESPN's Jim Bowden that Kendrick will be the team's left fielder.
