Jaguars should focus on replacing Allen Robinson after agreeing with Andrew Norwell

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Here are the moves the Jacksonville Jaguars should consider when free agency opens at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday, March 14:

Replace WR Allen Robinson: The Jaguars declined to use the franchise tag on the 24-year-old receiver last week because they didn't believe he was worth $15.982 million for next season. That's fine, but with him agreeing to terms with the Bears, they need to find a replacement. Even with concerns about how he'll perform coming off a torn left ACL, Robinson was the Jaguars' best downfield playmaker. He was the one receiver on the roster for which defenses had to account. The Jaguars didn't have him last season, and defenses ganged up to stop the run game, single-covered the receivers and dared the Jaguars to beat them throwing the ball. The Jaguars couldn't do it consistently. It isn't a good group of free-agent receivers, but it would be irresponsible to count on a rookie to be a consistent downfield playmaker, so they need to figure out something.

Address the interior of the offensive line: The Jaguars finished the regular season as the NFL's top rushing team (141.4 yards per game), but their production dropped significantly in the final six games. The Jaguars averaged 51.3 fewer rushing yards per game in Weeks 12-17 than they did in the first 11 weeks. The Jaguars ran for at least 135 yards nine times in their first 10 games and failed to crack 100 yards just once (99 yards in Week 2). In the final six games, however, the Jaguars surpassed 100 yards just twice. Right guard A.J. Cann was up and down, and left guard Patrick Omameh is an average player, so addressing one or both guard spots in free agency or high in the draft is a must. The Jaguars have reportedly started this process by agreeing to terms with Andrew Norwell.

Find a pass-catching tight end: Jaguars tight ends caught an NFL-low 43 passes in 2017, and the group's 505 receiving yards were the second-fewest behind New Orleans (476 yards). Marcedes Lewis led the team with five touchdown catches, but three came in Week 3, and he caught more than three passes in a game just twice. He had just five catches in the final four weeks of the regular season. There isn't much out there in free agency, with the exception of Tyler Eifert and Jimmy Graham. Eifert has missed 22 games the past two seasons because of injuries, and Graham is 31, but he led the NFL with 10 red-zone TD catches last season. He would give the Jaguars the size matchup they now lack without Robinson.

Nab a backup QB: Blake Bortles is the only quarterback under contract for 2018. There's a chance the Jaguars will bring back Chad Henne at a smaller salary (he made $3.5 million last season, and the veteran minimum in 2018 is slightly more than $1 million), but it's likely they'll look elsewhere. It's not exactly a great list of available quarterbacks, though: Sam Bradford, Mike Glennon, Teddy Bridgewater, Geno Smith and Josh McCown are some of the top names.
