Nothing but radio silence from Andrew Luck since going on injured reserve

@MikeWellsNFL: Where’s Andrew Luck? That’s been the biggest question surrounding the Indianapolis Colts outside of the continued questioning of whether coach Chuck Pagano will be fired at the end of the season.

Luck hasn’t been seen inside the Colts facility or at games, by the media at least, since Oct. 11, the day he was making 30-yard throws on the far side of the practice field. The Colts announced on Oct. 18 that they were giving Luck a cortisone shot and shutting him down for the time being in an attempt to calm down the soreness. Luck was put on season-ending injured reserve on Nov. 3. General manager Chris Ballard made the announcement that afternoon, but Luck did not address the media. Then ESPN reported on Nov. 12 that the quarterback was heading to Europe to look at other treatment options on his surgically repaired right shoulder.

And that’s when things went really silent on the Luck front. It wasn't until earlier this week that Pagano gave a very brief update on the quarterback's status.

“He’s doing fine, communicating via email and text, making progress,” Pagano said on Dec. 11. “I think everybody knows he’s in Europe somewhere getting some great treatment. He’s communicating with our docs and our trainers. They’re all communicating together.”

Owner Jim Irsay shed some more light on Luck’s status recently when he told NFL Network, while at the league owners' meetings in Dallas, that Luck will be returning from Europe soon and that “no additional surgery” is planned “at this point” for his franchise quarterback.

"He's doing great," Irsay said. "He's doing well. [We're] disappointed, obviously, it's taken as long as it's taken. You know medicine and the way it goes. But there hasn't been any unusual setback. We didn't find out anything ominous, something we didn't know about or anything like that. It's just taken time for him to go through his whole aspect of rehabbing and progressing and working through the soreness."

While Irsay did say that Luck is doing great, it definitely should be noted that the owner said “at this point” when it comes to whether the quarterback would be having anymore surgeries done on his shoulder.

Luck is expected to talk to the media at some point. Hopefully he'll clarify on what type of treatment he received in Europe, how his shoulder is feeling, whether he has resumed throwing and whether he thinks he’ll be able to take part in offseason workouts, etc.

The potential coaching search and roster changes will be significant news during the Colts' offseason. Luck’s health will be even bigger news because every move he makes with his shoulder will be a topic of discussion. And that's how it should be when you consider that he didn't play a snap in 2017 and it's been more than two years since he was injured.
