Barangay Ginebra opened its bid for a Governors' Cup three-peat on a high note, going on a tear in the fourth period to pummel Columbian Dyip, 96-84, in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Justin Brownlee towed the Gin Kings with a double-double effort of 34 points and 20 rebounds, to go with five assists, three steals, and the same number of blocks.
Greg Slaughter had 14 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Japeth Aguilar added 14 markers.
Scottie Thompson was two assists shy of a triple double as he wound up with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He also had two steals and a block in almost 40 minutes of play.
The Gin Kings got their bearings early in the fourth period to turn a tight match into a breakaway and go on to set off their season-ending conference campaign on a winning note.
With a balanced effort, Ginebra zoomed to an 18-6 run and established a comfortable an 84-72 lead with 3:23 remaining.
The Gin Kings were just unstoppable from there, with Justin Brownlee hitting a booming three-pointer a fwe minutes later that gave them a 16-point buffer, 91-75.
Ginebra added to the misery of the Dyip, who dropped to their fourth loss in as many matches.
Rashawn McCarthy paced the Dyip with 18 points, two rebounds, and three steals. Jerramy King added 17 points and five boards.

Columbian Dyip import Akeem Wright had a measly 12 points in a little over 40 minutes of action. He also hauled down nine rebounds.
Justin Brownlee shot 5-of-8 from the three-point area. But he turned the ball over six times, the most in the game.
