All PBA players available to Gilas for FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial reaffirmed the league's support of the national team following FIBA's suspension of 10 Gilas Pilipinas players.

FIBA also suspended Gilas coach Chot Reyes for one game and assistant coach Jong Uichico for three games.

Marcial told the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas all players from the 12 PBA teams are available to participate in upcoming FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers matches.

"He can get the pool from the 12 teams in the PBA," Marcial said in Filipino on Thursday. "The whole PBA, its team owners and governors, is supporting the Gilas program."

Marcial said the topic was discussed during the PBA Board's last meeting and the team governors agreed.

"We talked about that during our last meeting. And they were OK about helping Gilas," he said.

Marcial said Rain or Shine is willing to send the bulk of its players as well as its coaching staff for the upcoming Asian Games.

"I talked to Boss Raymond (Yu) and Terry Que (Rain or Shine owners). Their support to the national team is all out," he said.

Yu confirmed this development. But he was quick to say that nothing is set in stone yet.

"There is no concrete agreement yet, but the PBA asked us to provide the bulk of our players for the Asian Games," Yu said after Rain or Shine's 109-100 win over Ginebra in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

"There are details that we need to iron out," Yu said.

Yu said he wants to make sure the Philippines is sending a competitive team for the Indonesia showcase. It's not clear, though, whether they will tap players from other teams.

"We're willing but you have to understand that the competition in the Asian Games is tough," he said. "So we're worried. If we're gonna go there, we will send a team that is really competitive."
