Steph Curry leads oath of sportsmanship at UAAP opening ceremony

Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors graced the opening ceremonies of the 81st season of the UAAP on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The three-time NBA champion, who is in town for the first stop of his Asian Tour, led the oath of sportsmanship sworn by the various athletes of each UAAP school.

Aside from Curry's appearance, a number of entertainment acts made up the opening festivities. Local artists Sponge Cola and James Reid and Korean pop star Minzy performed inside the jam-packed arena.

"In Season 80, we celebrated greatness, but striving for greatness never really ends. It all begins here as we enter a new decade in the UAAP," said National University board of trustees member Dr. RJ Ermita. "There's a new vibrance among our student-athletes. This excellence will be felt by the thousands of new students and new fans."

This year's UAAP season is hosted by NU with the theme "It all begins here."

"Welcome to your new UAAP experience. Beyond the competition, we celebrate the value of sports. Ladies and gentlemen, sports is life. Welcome to the UAAP. It all begins here," said Ermita.
