Great Britain snatched an unexpected gold in the Men's 4x100m relay as Jamaica's Usain Bolt closed his career by pulling up injured in the home straight.
The Jamaican sprint legend was running in a distant third when he appeared to pull a muscle but out in front, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake held off American Christian Coleman in a thrilling finish.
Much of the London crowd were hoping for a fitting climax to Bolt's extraordinary career but it was the home team who ignited the stadium as CJ Ujah, Adam Gemili, Danny Talbot and Mitchell-Blake produced a new national record, breaking the old mark set in 1999.
Ujah ran an electric first bend to send Gemili scampering down the back straight -- holding at bay the individual 100m champion Justin Gatlin -- and after Talbot's top bend had cemented the lead, Mitchell-Blake lasted out to deny a closing Coleman and secure a famous win.
Team GB's first ever Men's 4x100m World Championship success followed the silver medal won by Team GB Women.
Bolt brings down the curtain on a career that has yielded 19 global golds and retires as the fastest man in history with his 100m record of 9.58 seconds -- set in Berlin in 2009 -- remaining in tact.
