Former Michigan standout Laila Phelia transfers to Texas

Former Michigan women's basketball standout Laila Phelia has signed with Texas, the program announced Monday.

Phelia was a first-team All-Big Ten selection as a junior this past season, leading the Wolverines in scoring at 16.8 points per game while adding 3.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

"We are very excited to welcome Laila and her family to The 40 Acres," Texas coach Vic Schaefer said in a statement. "She is an outstanding young lady who brings a veteran presence to our team. She is a proven scorer in The Big Ten and will add not only another offensive dimension to our team, but will bring toughness and a competitive spirit as well."

Phelia, a 6-foot guard, joins a Texas squad that was already slated to be a preseason top-5 team in the country. The Longhorns, who fell in the Elite Eight this past season after clinching the Big 12 tournament title, return Rori Harmon from ACL injury as well as other standouts Madison Booker and Aaliyah Moore. Schaefer is also bringing in two top-15 recruits in Jordan Lee and Justice Carlton.
