South Carolina's A'ja Wilson was named the John R. Wooden Award winner Friday night, making her the consensus national player of the year in women's college basketball.
She was honored as part of the fourth annual College Basketball Awards in downtown Los Angeles.
Wilson, a senior forward, also won the Naismith, Associated Press, and espnW player of the year awards. The other women's finalists for the Wooden Award this year were Louisville junior Asia Durr, Oregon sophomore Sabrina Ionescu, UConn junior Katie Lou Samuelson, and UConn senior Gabby Williams.
Wilson averaged 22.6 points and 11.8 rebounds with 105 blocked shots for the Gamecocks (29-7), who won the SEC tournament championship and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament.
Wilson was the 2017 Women's Final Four most outstanding player when South Carolina won the national championship.
She is expected to be the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft on Thursday by the Las Vegas Aces. Williams is also expected to be a lottery pick in the draft.
