Having completed the first two sets on Monday, the players returned Wednesday as Vondrousova advanced 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 and will now face Elise Mertens after the No. 2 seed defeated Mandy Minella 6-4, 6-1.
No. 6 seed Alize Cornet overcame wild card Jil Teichmann 7-6, 6-0 to set up a second-round clash with either Magdalena Frech or Stefanie Voegele, who have yet to start their first-round match.
No. 9 seed Alison van Uytvanck beat France's Oceane Dodin 6-4, 6-2 to set up a meeting with Italy's Camila Giorgi who saw off Kristyna Pliskova 6-3, 6-2.
Aryna Sabalenka upset No. 7 seed Mihaela Buzarnescu 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 and will play Polona Hercog after the Belarusian edged Hsieh Su-wei 7-5, 6-0.
