World Cup predictions: Egypt vs. Uruguay, Morocco vs. Iran, Portugal vs. Spain

Day 1 at the World Cup was fun, as Russia cruised to a 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia and seven of experts got off to a winning start with their picks.

Now we get down to the real business of the World Cup, with more than one game. Three to be precise!

First up it's Mohamed Salah vs. Luis Suarez, current Liverpool vs ex-Liverpool, Egypt vs. Uruguay. Salah has been passed fit to play but will he be able to lead his country to an opening victory? Only Gab Marcotti and Miguel Pasquel have backed Salah's men, so the general consensus seems to be that Uruguay will come out on top. But everyone is predicting goals, goals, goals!

UPDATE 1: Brilliant start to the day for Craig Burley as he is the only one to get the 1-0 Uruguay win correct. A few other pundits went for the Uruguay victory, but Craig is the only one to get it spot on.

Then it's Africa against Asia as Morocco take on Iran. Quite a few people are backing Morocco to be the tournament's dark horse, despite being in a group with Portugal and Spain. They will have to win this to have any serious hope of getting out of the group. Steve Nicol, Paul Mariner, Mauricio Pedroza, Manu Martin and Ed Dove all think they can pull it off.

UPDATE 2: Not one person predicted an Iran win, though a few were robbed of 10 points for the draw by their 95th-minute winner for a 1-0 victory. As you were!

The last game of the day is the showpiece between Iberian rivals Portugal and Spain. How will Spain cope with the shock sacking of Julen Lopetegui on Wednesday? Our pundits seem to think they will be just fine as eight of 11 have backed them to win. Only Manu Martin (Portugal win) and Ed Dove (draw) disagree.

UPDATE 3: Only Ed Dove had this Iberian peninsula clash ending in a draw, and for that he picks up 10 points. But it wasn't enough to catch Craig, who was the day's winner with the 30 points he earned from predicting Uruguay's 1-0 win over Egypt.
